The Faculty of Computer Science at Sriwijaya University Conducts a Benchmarking Visit to the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Indonesia to Strengthen the National Research-Based University (PTNBH) Initiative and the Doctoral Program in Computer Science
On March 4, 2024, the Faculty of Computer Science (Fasilkom) at Sriwijaya University (Unsri) conducted a benchmarking visit to the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Indonesia (Fasilkom UI). This activity aimed to examine faculty management from the perspective of a State University with Legal Entity Status (PTNBH) and the management of the Doctoral Program (S3) in Computer Science.
The Dean of Fasilkom Unsri, Prof. Dr. Erwin S.Si., M.Si., stated that this benchmarking is essential to improve the quality of faculty management and the Doctoral Program in Computer Science. “We want to learn from the experience of Fasilkom UI, which has become a PTNBH and has an outstanding Doctoral Program in Computer Science,” said Prof. Erwin.
The delegation from Unsri’s Faculty of Computer Science, consisting of eight people—including the Dean, Vice Deans 2 and 3, the Head of the Bachelor’s Program and a master’s-level Computer Science faculty member, as well as the faculty’s quality assurance officer, was warmly received by the Deputy Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Ari Saptawijaya, S.Kom., M.Sc., Ph.D., the Head of the Doctoral Program in Computer Science, Prof. Harry Budi Santoso, S.Kom., M.Kom., Ph.D., and Mr. Alfan Farizki Wicaksono, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Program in Computer Science and the International Class. During the meeting, both parties exchanged information regarding the management of the faculty and the Doctoral Program in Computer Science.
The UI Faculty of Computer Science has been a Public Research University (PTNBH) since 2013 and offers a Doctoral Program in Computer Science that has been accredited with an “A” (Excellent) rating. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Computer Science at Unsri still operates as a faculty under Sriwijaya University, and its Doctoral Program in Computer Science is currently in the process of being established.
Prof. Erwin hopes that through this benchmarking, the Faculty of Computer Science at Unsri can improve the quality of its faculty management and the Computer Science Ph.D. program so that it can become better and produce high-quality graduates.
Some key takeaways from this benchmarking include:
  • Fasilkom UI’s experience in managing the faculty as a Public Research University (PTNBH)
  • A structured and accredited management system for the Doctoral Program in Computer Science
  • UI’s Faculty of Computer Science’s strategy for improving the quality of research and publications
  • Fasilkom UI’s collaboration with industry and international partners
The results of this benchmarking will be used to:
  • Develop a strategic plan for the development of the Faculty of Computer Science at Unsri as a Public Research University
  • Improve the quality of management of the Computer Science Doctoral Program
  • Improve the quality of faculty research and publications
  • Strengthen collaboration with industry and international partners
Through this benchmarking, it is hoped that the Faculty of Computer Science at Unsri can improve its quality and become one of the best computer science faculties in Indonesia.
